Original artwork – framed, signed and ready to hang
Description
The Brothel is a vivid and emotionally charged painting inspired by German Expressionism
Audrey Néron reimagines five iconic works by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner into one bold cohesive composition
Saturated reds yellows and blues pulse across the canvas animating a dreamlike scene filled with sensual defiant figures
The energy is immediate
chaotic yet controlled
with layered references to power eroticism and emotional dislocation
Framed in vibrant red wood the piece takes on a theatrical presence
a confrontation between desire and control
color and tension
Artist’s Note
The Brothel was created during a period of deep fascination with the emotional force of German Expressionism
Kirchner’s work ignited something visceral in me
a kind of chaos I needed to explore
This is not a tribute in the nostalgic sense
it’s a collision
past and present
desire and discomfort
what’s exposed and what remains hidden
I pulled elements from five of his works
but I let them unravel
merge
and reform through my own body and brush
There is defiance in this piece
but also softness
The figures watch you back
They are not passive
They inhabit the painting with full presence
I was looking for a language that could hold contradiction
Maybe I still am
— Audrey Néron
