Curator’s Note
Japanese I captures the bright, uplifting energy at the heart of Audrey Néron’s Happiness Series. This intimate mixed-media piece blends expressive brushstrokes with delicate layers of tissue paper and whimsical fragments of Japanese candy wrappers. Vibrant pinks, purples, and soft yellows create a lively visual rhythm, while fluid marks and textured gestures bring movement and spontaneity to the composition.
This artwork embodies a sense of renewal a shift from winter’s quietness toward the spark of spring. Every layer feels like a small burst of joy, echoing Néron’s signature balance of intuition, playfulness, and emotional depth.
Artist’s Note
The Happiness Series was created from a desire to rekindle energy after winter to put myself in “spring mode.” I was inspired by the cheerful spring stickers I used in my Instagram stories: butterflies, flowers, hummingbirds, little symbols of warmth returning. I also kept noticing beautiful Japanese candy wrappers in a drawer, and their colors naturally found their way into my work.
These unexpected elements blended into my creative process, adding brightness, texture, and play. Japanese I reminds me of that moment of inner renewal soft, vibrant, and full of movement.
