Grey passages, brighter colour and gestural drawing accumulate across the surface without resolving into a single stable image. Automatic writing, graphite and charcoal marks move through the painted field, producing a dense interplay between notation, abstraction and emerging form.

Fade to Grey belongs to the Inner Language body of work. Its structure develops through successive responses to colour, drawing and material, allowing the composition to form through the act of painting rather than from a predetermined image.
