Arbor Vitae 2020
Audrey Néron | Abstract Series
Acrylic, japanese paper and china marker on canvas mounted on wood
25.4 × 20.32 × 4.45 cm 10 × 8 × 1.75 in
Original artwork – signed varnished and ready to hang
Curators Note
Arbor Vitae Latin for Tree of Life is the third and final piece in a trio of works exploring transformation through chaos memory and material
Despite its intimate scale the painting radiates with raw movement where black and red strokes tear through layers of white and muted golds evoking branching structures roots and abstract anatomies
Collaged papers emerge beneath translucent gestures hinting at cultural remnants or encoded memory
A china marker slashes confidently across the surface adding a visceral almost primitive counterpoint to the more fluid acrylic textures
What unfolds is not a literal tree but a dynamic force
Life taking form through accumulation gesture rupture and rebirth
Arbor Vitae does not narrate
It pulses resisting stillness insisting on its presence
Artists Note
I didnt paint a tree
I painted what keeps growing beneath the surface
Movement layers tension
This piece is about life insisting on itself
