Curator’s Note
The Red is an early yet striking work from Audrey Néron’s Abstract Series, created in 2007 as a visceral tribute to the Automatist lineage — particularly the legacy of Marcelle Ferron.
The composition pulses with urgency. A saturated red ground dominates, not merely as background but as a force in itself — bold, emotional, unrelenting. Across this burning field, Néron deploys gestural black structures, as if building resistance within the chaos. Accents of white, emerald green, and ochre interrupt the tension like flashes of clarity or revolt.
What emerges is not a static abstract but a dynamic field of collision: between construction and deconstruction, between homage and innovation. The surface bears the energy of improvisation, yet remains intentional — the work of a hand both intuitive and assertive.
While The Red echoes the spiritual freedom of Automatism, it also foreshadows Néron’s own voice: one rooted in raw emotion, vibrant contradiction, and material presence.
