ARTIST STATEMENT
Audrey Néron's practice begins with a need: to find grounding.
Her works function as perceptual interruption devices. They capture the gaze before the viewer has decided to enter. The encounter is physical, immediate, involuntary.
This power of interception is built materially. The rhinestones and micro-mirrors of the Meat & Petals series fragment and redistribute light: each movement of the body through space produces a different experience of the work. The viewer becomes a participant. Their presence activates what they see.
Figuration is not constructed. It is extracted. Néron begins from a segment of matter a surface tension, a zone of colour and allows to emerge what the canvas generates from within itself. Figures appear without having been summoned. Matter is source, not support. The painting knows before the painter.
Density, accumulation, partial apparition. Works that do not yield immediately. The gaze must negotiate with the surface.
